About Us and Our Mission

About Us

Advancing Tennis & Racquet Sports in the Garden City!

The Garden City Tennis Series was developed out of a passion to grow tennis in the greater Boston area. With over 200 public and private courts in the City of Newton, it was a natural transition to advance tennis through sanctioned UTR organized tournament play. Tennis is a life long sport that brings together families, friends, and communities, and we hope to provide fun and productive tournaments for players of all ages and ranges. Whether you are a novice beginner, or high performance young adult and adult, or a doubles specialist, there is something for everyone to participate in. Please join us!

Our Mission

Our mission with each Garden City event - Challengers, Singles, and Doubles Championships - is to bring together a community of passionate, like-minded individuals who share a love of the sport. It seems that there has been a great shift over the years towards robotic learning, focusing on technical harmony and drill patterns, which fails to celebrate the real beauty of this sport - the competition, the fight, the grueling play between two fierce competitors. Our hope is that the Garden City Tennis Series will bring a nuanced, fresh perspective, and love for the competition of tennis, teaching the current and growing generation about what it means to be a true competitor in sport.

All events are held in memory of Isadore Singer, avid tennis player and MIT math professor, with support from New England Tennis & Education Foundation

Our Code of Etiquette and Ethics

We adhere to strict etiquette policies.

When competing, players are expected to remain respectful towards their opponents and abide by the following values:

Respect

Remain respectful towards opponents and treat them with dignity, impervious to the score of the match or other external factors that may influence decisions, judgements, and behaviors.

Integrity and Fair Play

Make line calls to the best of your ability and adhere to the rules of the game. Shake hands with your opponent before and after the match and acknowledge the effort both of you displayed. Celebrate wins with grace and take loses with acceptance.

Ownership

Accept responsibility for your actions during the match and don't blame others for your wrong-doings. Only you are playing the match.

Failure to comply will result in termination from the tournament.

Goals Beyond Tournaments
